Prospective Parliamentary Candidate
Chris Bowers was the only political representative at a walk organised by the Residents of East Sussex Against Landraise up Mount Caburn.
The walk had been organised to allow participants to have a look at the geographical context behind the county council's proposals to dump large amounts of rubbish in unspoilt countryside. From the top of Mount Caburn you can see three of the five proposed Landraise 'areas of search'.
The Conservative candidate for Lewes, Jason Sugarman, had also been invited, but cried off at the last minute. Organisers gave Chris the chance to pull out, but despite persistent drizzle, Chris went along in his waterproofs.
"I think it's important to show solidarity with the campaigners against Landraise," Chris said. "This is not a Nimbyist protest but a principled one - landraise as a method of waste disposal is outdated and plain wrong, and I'm keen to support those fighting the county's proposals in any way I can."
